How or what exactly do i need to connect a preamp to my computer so i can start recording?
and can u also explain to me how i can connect a mixer to a preamp or a preamp to a mixer and then to the computer is that possible?
You can do both but I would need to know what you are trying to achieve. You can find all the adapters you need at Radio Shack but I would need to know if you are planning on playing your mixes off your computer (then you use the pre-amp plus any other effects first) but if you want to amplify what is coming out of your computer you would probably want to add effects after the sound leaves your computer on the way to your amp.

Although pre amps are considered to be wonderful, there are some people who are avoiding the market to shop for one. The reason is that features are complicated. There are many small things for just recording small bands. The good thing is that there are few manufacturers that include ADAT ports on their interfaces. One of them is PreSonus. This brand is known for their analogue and digital designs. A device that made them popular is Presonus Digimax D8. This rackmounting device consist of class-A XMax preamps. It also has an interface that can be used anywhere where the ADAT input is accepted.
The good thing with Presonus is that they won’t add certain features that you won’t likely need. The eight preamps all have the same gain trim control. You can find a pad button and phantom power. There are two inputs for electric guitar and bases so it is easy to use. Each one has its balanced TRS analogue output. This is perfect for hardware recording gear. You can certainly put Presonus Digimax D8 in good use. There is no need for digital output because the cost per channel is quite low. Via the ADAT connection, the Presonus Digimax D8 can be synchronized.
You could see the D8 layout is straightforward. The front face includes gain trims, pad switches and LED metering. On the rear panel is where you can find mic input XLRs with TRS jack output. This tool must be used as clock master. Its audio interface must be synchronized with its own word clock input. You can also find four phantom power buttons at the back which is a bit impractical. Once the unit is on the rack, it is somewhat difficult to access its switch and connector. The best ones of this kind are quite expensive. The simplicity of the design of equipment is attractive.
Overall this Presonus Digimax D8 is specified even if it is at practice. This equipment is very user friendly. When one considers the price of pre amp, you would say that Presonus Digimax D8 has a great value. It is also easy to operate giving you a smooth sound. This can work anywhere with ADAT input port. You could also use this with any analogue mixer, recorder or audio interface. There are few drawback of this product like the bad positioning of power switch and phantom power buttons.
